Texas hold em poker (or sometimes written hold’em or holdem) is the most popular game of poker played today in North America and Europe in casinos and online. The game is a community card game where each player has their own two cards and then they play with 5 community cards to make up their hands. The aim of the game as with all variants of poker is to win the pot of money by making correct decisions such as when and how much to bet, raise, call or fold.
How did Texas Hold em Poker come about?
The game dates back to the 1900s and the Texas State Legislature officially recognizes Robstown, Texas as the game's birthplace although not very much is known about the invention of the game.
From Texas the game was introduced to Las Vegas in 1967 by a group of Texan gamblers and card players, including Crandell Addington, Doyle Brunson, and Amarillo Slim. Crandell Addington said the first time he played it was in 1959 and they just called it holdem back then not texas holdem.
